The life of the late country legend George Jones is headed to the big screen. Deadline.com says 28 Entertainment has secured the rights to the iconic singer's story, and has tapped Dennis Baxter to craft the script. He'll also serve as the producer along with Jay and Brian Hoffman.
The plot will revolve around Jones' career, including his rise to fame and his success amid a backdrop of substance abuse.
While Jones passed away in April, he and his wife Nancy had begun work on the cinematic project with Baxter six years ago. Nancy remains on board as an executive producer. She adds that she feels comfortable teaming with Baxter. She says "knowing George had input in this film and that it will be told the way he wanted it told" leaves her feeling like the project is in "good hands."
